SAN ANTONIO -

An initiative in San Antonio is working to increase breastfeeding rates by making it easier for moms to breastfeed their babies.

Leaders from Metro Health and the Texas Department of Health Services opened the doors to "Baby Cafe" on Tuesday.

The cafe is a drop-in center for information on breastfeeding and a place where mothers can breastfeed their newborns.

"About three in four women will leave the hospital breastfeeding, so [that's] about 77 percent here in San Antonio," said Jennifer Herriott, assistant director of community health. "By about three months to six months, we're down to 16 percent of women who are exclusively breastfeeding."

The cafe is located at 4538 Centerview Drive, Suite 151, on the northwest side of town.
