Officials with the South Texas Veterans Health Care System said the National Salute program provides an opportunity to reach out to the community and invite people to visit patients and hear their stories of sacrifice and heroism.

“You ask them about their service or their branch of service or where they served, the era they served in, and the stories start to flow,” said Joyce Brown, with the South Texas Veteran Health Care System. “The beauty of it is to see the engagement, particularly of our current military, and speaking to someone in a past era, and it really weaves a beautiful story.”
