SAN ANTONIOFun Facts:

  • It is the largest of the five missions
  • Was founded on February 23, 1720.
  • The stone facade of the church is carved from native limestone found along the San Antonio River. The limestone was soft enough to carve with wood-carving tools.

  • The church facade, the rose window and much of the north and south walls of the church are original. Other portions of the mission have been rebuilt.
