Gas stations were as busy as Santa's elves Friday as holiday travelers prepared to hit the roads in bigger numbers.
An estimated 7.9 million Texans were expected to travel over the long holiday stretch, according to AAA, an increase for the fifth year in a row.
While the number of people flying is down because of higher air fares, the number of people hitting the highways is up.
"I'm going to Florida," said Charlzetta Miller."I have an Air Force son, and I'm going to Florida."
Brittany Davis was filling her "sleigh" to head home to Missouri.
"No reindeer. No reindeer. I wish. I feel like it would be a lot cheaper than gas, though," she said.
The price at the pump is averaging $3.02 a gallon in San Antonio, down 4 cents since last week, but about the same price as last Christmas.
The HEB on Austin Highway had a steady stream of customers taking advantage of $2.94 per gallon gas.
