The international initiative's goal is to build awareness about the fundamental importance of teaching children to swim to prevent drowning. It teaches children about safety inside and outside the pool.

"Water’s a lot of fun. You can do fitness programs in it. You can do wellness programs in it. Most of all, you want to be safe around it. You need to know how to be safe outside it, as well as in the pool,” said Hank Salinas, assistant manager for the Parks and Recreation Department.

More than 600 children in nine area pools joined 22 countries in five continents for the lessons.
