SAN ANTONIO – Mothers at the Bexar County Jail observed Mother’s Day a little early by participating in a special Mass.
About 40 women attended Friday morning’s Mass in the jail’s women’s chapel.

The Mass was delivered by Archbishop Gustavo Garcia-Siller. He said Mother’s Day is a beautiful day for women everywhere, including those who are serving time.
“We’re here to express our love for them and to let them know that the gift of being a mother cannot be taken away,” Garcia-Siller said.
This was the archbishop’s sixth Mother’s Day Mass at the jail. He said the incarcerated mothers usually ask for prayers for their children.
Garcia-Siller assures the women that their children love them, and he helps to convey their love to their children, as well.
