New Braunfels brewery holds fundraiser for competitor

Fire destroys New Braunfels Brewery Co., owners' home

NEW BRAUNFELS, Texas – Breweries in New Braunfels are putting competition aside after a house fire destroyed the New Braunfels Brewery Co. and its owners' home on Easter Sunday.

An event was held Friday at Guadalupe Brewing Co. to raise funds to help its competitor rebuild.

Kelley and Lindsey Myer, the owners of New Braunfels Brewery Co., were in disbelief at the community's support.

"It just kind of exploded. All of our friends, people in the industry, it's turned into obviously a very big party, which is cool," Kelley Myer said. "It's a little overwhelming for us, but it's great to see the support."

The couple lost their home along with their brewery business to a fire early Sunday morning.

"The craft beer community is tight. We're all kind of in this fight together," said Keith Kilker, owner of Guadalupe Brewing Co. "It's small business, so it's a struggle against companies with a lot more money and resources."

Kilker decided to donate all of Friday's beer sales to the Myers. As word spread, other breweries got involved and a silent auction was set up with 50 items available to the highest bidders.
