Five New Braunfels businesses, including two churches, have been targeted by burglars since Sunday, and police believe the same people are behind all of them.

New Braunfels police Captain John McDonald confirmed that the crooks appear to be after electronics, including laptop computers, TVs and DVD players.

One business, Albright Eyecare, also lost numerous pairs of eyeglass frames to the burglars, police said.

Most of the businesses that were hit are situated either along Loop 337, or on E. Common Street. One is located on W. Coll Street.

Johnny Aguirre is manager of Los Gallos Mexican restaurant, which sits right in the middle of the crime wave.

However, he said he was unaware of the rash of break-ins.

"We haven't heard anything,” Aguirre said. “We had been broken into some years back, but we took precautions and got surveillance cameras. And ever since then, we haven't had any problems."

Aguirre said he believes the cameras have not only deterred crime at his restaurant, but also helped solve cases involving other businesses.

He said he once gave police surveillance video that showed the suspects in a break-in at a nearby store.

This time around, Aguirre said, his camera failed to capture any activity at Faith United Church of Christ next door -- one of the businesses burglarized on Sunday.

But police are hoping someone’s eyes did see something, and they’re asking anyone with information to come forward.

Comal County Crime Stoppers is offering a reward of up to $2,000 for information that leads to an arrest.

The number to call is 830-620-8477 or 830-620-TIPS.
