North East Independent School District announced on Monday its policy for providing free and reduced price meals for children who qualify.
The following criteria will be used to determine a child’s eligibility for free or reduced-price meal benefits:
- Household income that is at or below the income eligibility levels
- Household receives Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF), or Food Distribution Program on Indian Reservations (FDPIR)
- Child’s status as a foster child, homeless, runaway, migrant, or displaced by a declared disaster or child’s enrollment in Head Start or Even Start
On the first day of school, applications for free and reduced price meal benefits will be distributed to all students with a letter explaining the benefits and any actions households need to take to apply. Any household that does not receive a letter and feels it should have may complete an application or contact School Nutrition Services at (210) 356-9113.
