A sprawling San Antonio is creating an ever-growing Northside Independent School District.
More students have resulted in more schools and, in turn, more jobs.
On Wednesday, a job fair was held to fill needed positions with NISD.
"I’m looking for a job, just like everybody else,” said applicant Tony Garcia.
Garcia has been unemployed for two months and acknowledged that the job market is still difficult to break into.
“It’s been very tough,” said Garcia.
Garcia believed he would be a good fit in the custodial department at NISD and, like many others who attended Wednesday’s job fair, he was granted an interview.
"So far, it’s been about over 100 people, which is very encouraging,” said NISD human resources representative Audry Ortegon, referring to the large number of applicants.
According to Ortegon, NISD is looking to fill 200 bus driver positions, 50 custodial spots, and around 40 food service jobs. No experience is needed.
"For bus drivers, you don't even have to have your CDL,” said Ortegon. “We'll put you through training and you’ll acquire that CDL through the training."
NISD is in the process of building three new schools, set to open for the new school year. The growing district has left a significant need for personnel.
"We're always hiring; we always have a need,” said Ortegon.
