SAN ANTONIO – Northside Independent School District student Andrea Hernandez and her family are suing NISD and John Jay High School over the district's use of Smart ID badges, which track students while they are on campus. The lawsuit was filed in Bexar County by Hernandez and her father Steve.
It says requiring her to wear the Smart ID badge infringes on her religious freedom.

According to the lawsuit, Hernandez says submitting to the authority of a secular entity is the same as idolatry or submitting to a false god.
Hernandez is seeking an injunction to prevent the school from kicking her out of her current education program, and monetary damages.
However, Infowars.com reported Hernandez is being withdrawn from the magnate school and her program at the Science and Engineering Academy, and instead will have to attend William Howard Taft HS, which is not currently involved in the Smart ID program, unless she changes her position.
Northside ISD, John Jay High School, John Jay Science and Engineering Academy, along with the principals of those schools are named in the lawsuit.
KSAT's calls to NISD for comment on the lawsuit have not been returned.
