Family and friends say 16-year-old Malery Martinez had the best smile and enjoyed making people laugh.
Martinez, who was a passenger in a vehicle, was killed over the weekend after police say a driver of a pickup truck made a U-turn in front of the vehicle her mother was driving.
It happened around 2:30 p.m. on Saturday.
Family members say after the driver forced her mother off the road and their vehicle crashed into a tree.
Her mother survived, but Martinez was killed on impact.
O'Connor High School Principal Jackie Horras said Martinez was a good student who enjoyed art.
"She really enjoyed art. She was taking a class and was excited about that. She really was a talented artist," said Horras.
Horras said grief counselors will remain at the high school indefinitely to help teachers and students cope with the sudden loss of Martinez.
Horras said Martinez’s younger sister also attends O'Connor High School.
At this time, police are asking for the public's help in tracking down the driver of the pickup truck who caused the crash and fled the scene.
Investigators describe the truck as a grey or silver Ford F-150.
