SAN ANTONIO – It's been a week since tornadoes and severe storms swept through the San Antonio area and many homeowners and business owners are still working to recover.
Dr. Christina Wei said when she walked into Alamo Elite Wellness last Monday with the rest of her staff, they were shocked and devastated.
"We immediately tried to salvage our furniture," said Wei. "Luckily, we were all safe, but we knew we immediately had to evacuate the building so we salvaged as much as we could of our furniture."
Although the mental health clinic, which is located off Callaghan Road, was not in the direct path of the tornadoes that hit San Antonio last week, the rain and strong winds caused significant damage to their office space.
"The water came through the roof," Wei said. "Our ceiling was completely destroyed. Also, the walls were destroyed. So, we have no ceiling, no walls and the floor is going to have to be replaced too."
In addition to the building damage, the clinic's fax machine hasn't been working, which is the staff's primary communication with pharmacies and insurance companies.
For now they are temporarily sharing a space with another psychiatric practice at 1636 Lockhill-Selma Road.
"It doesn't seem like we're going to be able to return to this location, at least not anytime soon," Wei said. “So we're hoping we'll find a new location and also we're hoping our patients will be able to get in contact with us because we realize they depend on us to receive their medication."
