SAN ANTONIO -

A Hill Country Village police officer was injured after she struck a piece of furniture lying in the middle of Loop 410 near San Pedro Avenue around midnight on Thursday.

Officer Jennifer Pineda, 30, was headed east on Loop 410 in her motorcycle when she collided with the dresser and a dolly around midnight.

Pineda was taken by ambulance to University Hospital, and is expected to recover. Officials said she was headed to work when the accident occurred.

There was no word who dropped the dresser and dolly on the highway, but a spokesperson for the Texas Department of Transportation said debris on the road is a dangerous problem.

"We do encourage motorists to be very cautious when driving on the highway. If they see something, please do report it," said Laura Lopez.

She said drivers can report debris by calling the TxDOT district officer at 210-615-1110, going to txdot.gov or by calling 311 after hours, so the City of San Antonio can dispatch someone to pick it up.

"We do have our crews that are out on the roadway (and) if they see something, they do pull over and pick it up," Lopez said. "We do have to work together as a community."

She also said drivers should properly secure anything they're carrying and cover it with a tarp if necessary. Driver can be fined if they don't tie things down.
