Officer shoots at suspect after being dragged
A Converse Police Officer and a Schertz Police Officer were taken to the hospital to get treatment after they were dragged by a suspect's car in Converse Saturday night.
Converse Assistant Police Chief Rex Rhiner said it happened at the Walmart on F.M. 78 just after 7 p.m. Rhiner said the two officers, who were off-duty and working security at the store, were contacted by the store's loss prevention officer about a suspect.
The officers searched the parking lot and found a man matching the description of the suspect. During their questioning, Rhiner said the loss prevention officer confirmed that the man was the suspect he was looking for.
Rhiner said the suspect then put his car in reverse and hit the two officers with his car door and dragged them. While they were being dragged, the off-duty Schertz Police Officer managed to fire his weapon and hit the suspect. The suspect was able to flee the scene.
Rhiner said a short time later, officer responded to a call for a possible shooting at a home in Converse. Officers determined that it was the suspect from the Walmart incident who had been hit.
The suspect was taken to the hospital for treatment and was released. Rhiner said the man was taken in to custody and will be charged with two counts of aggravated assault on a peace officer.
