10-foot cobra found after hours long search near Southeast Texas schools

Sources: Owner has many exotic animals

NEEDVILLE, Texas – A 10-foot king cobra snake is on the loose Wednesday morning near several schools in Needville, according to officials.

That is just outside of Houston.

Sources told KSAT-12 sister station KPRC that the search for the snake was concentrated along Cloudt Road, near Needville High School.

According to a spokesman for the Needville Independent School District, state wildlife officials said the snake is near the campus, which includes the elementary, middle and high schools, but the snake was not on school property.

Sources also told KPRC that it appears that the snake escaped from someone who lives nearby and owns many exotic animals.

According to the Fort Bend County Sheriff's Office, the owner of the king cobras snake has two of these types of snakes.
