SAN ANTONIO -

A parent was dragged by a car after a suspect reportedly stole her purse outside an elementary school on the Northeast Side.

San Antonio police said the parent saw a man break into her car around 3 p.m. Tuesday and grab her purse.

The suspect then ran back to his car, but the parent followed and tried to stop him by grabbing the keys to his ignition as he attempted to flee.

The woman was dragged a short distance before she was able to free herself. Police said she did not suffer serious injuries and the suspect got away.

Parents at Serna Elementary School were shaken up by the incident. "I'm going to start carrying pepper spray. Like I tell my daughter, things happen, there are psycho people out there," said Rose Orneles, Serna Elementary School parent.

San Antonio police said the suspect fled in a gold or tan colored sedan. Anyone with information is asked to call police.
