SAN ANTONIO -

South San Independent School District spokesman Ed Suarez said parents were notified Tuesday about a student with bacterial meningitis.

The student exhibited symptoms on Friday and is currently in a hospital.

Suarez said the district was not obligated by the health department to notify parents, but did and is taking precautions, such as putting up extra sanitary stations and encouraging hand washing.

Suarez also said the contagion period in this case is over and the students are not in any danger. Suarez said the district was just being extra cautious.
