Person of faith grateful home spared by tornado

EF-2 twister damages homes on Linda Drive

SAN ANTONIO – The spirit of volunteerism is still alive and well on Linda Drive nearly a week after an EF-2 twister ripped through the North Side street.

Friends and family of the tornado victims, as well as strangers, gave up a Saturday to help those still cleaning up.

Francin Reynaga said her faith, which she prominently displays in front of her home, carried her through.

"I just think we're very blessed and I'm just praying for everybody on our street," Reynaga said.

Reynaga and her husband are some of the lucky ones. Only their car and a back window on their home sustained damage. Having escaped more serious damage, she became one of the countless volunteers.

Reynaga made and passed out breakfast tacos to her neighbors Saturday during the cleanup efforts.

Jonathan Villarreal spent part of his weekend helping his co-worker pick up the pieces left behind.

"We all picked up food, picked up water, picked up some beer, and came out and brought friends and family and little kids, you know, and just kind of made it a thing," Villarreal said.

Although progress is being made, Reynaga said people living on Linda Drive can use a lot more than manpower.

"Hope everybody prays for the people on our street because there's a lot of people that are displaced right now," she said.

The city of San Antonio issued this update on the storm cleanup efforts.
