Person of interest wanted in South Side day care injury

SAPD: Person of interest sought in alleged day care injury

SAN ANTONIO – Police are asking for the public's help in finding a day care worker who allegedly broke the arm of a 4-month-old boy.

The father of the child, who wants his identity protected, said, "He wakes up in the middle of the night crying like he's in pain, and all we can give him is Tylenol. I hate to see him like that crying, he's a baby."

The day care worker the father believes broke the upper part of the boy's arm is on the loose. It's been weeks since the incident, and he said the day care worker won't talk to police.

"He's a baby, you know. Was she in a bad mood, frustrated or what? If she's hearing us right now, I want her to turn herself in," said the boy's father.

The incident happened on June 29 at Heavenly Place Child Development Center on the South Side.

The owner, Candie Moyer, said off camera she fired the worker the day the baby, then 3-months-old, was injured. Moyer said she hasn't heard from her since.

"At this point we're not going to say it was done intentionally or if it was an accident," said Sgt. Javier Salazar of the San Antonio Police Department.

Salazar said it's important the worker comes forward so she can give her side of the story.

"Detectives are still investigating this as a possible injury to a child intentionally; if information develops that leads them in that direction even more so, it's possible this person face criminal charges," said Salazar.

"She admitted already to wrongdoing that she did. I'm getting stressed out, my wife is getting stressed out ... (The) baby, he's only 3 months, he hurts, we're hurting," said the boy's father.

The boy and his 3-year-old sister continue to be cared for at day care center. Their parents believe this is an isolated incident, but until the worker is found, they'll always worry.

"Eventually it's all going to catch up to her," said the boy's father.

Anyone with information on the day care worker is asked to contact the San Antonio Police Department.
