Pinwheels campaign hoping to end children's mental illness stigma

May is mental health awareness month

SAN ANTONIO – A new campaign is on display across the San Antonio hoping to end the stigma associated with children’s mental illness.

The campaign was created by Clarity Child Guidance Center in 2013.

The nonprofit organization works to help South Texas children between the ages of 3 and 17 dealing with mental illness.

Organizers said they hope the pinwheels will start a conversation about mental health in kids.

"You can't imagine a child holding a pinwheel turning in the wind without thinking of the innocence or joy that comes with a childhood worth living,” said Rebecca Helterbrand with the Clarity Child Guidance Center. “So this pinwheel is our symbol of the fact that children can heal and have hope in the treatment process."

Each pinwheel will be on display throughout the month of May, which is Mental Health Awareness Month.
