Plan to relieve traffic from SA to Austin underway

SAN ANTONIO – A plan to help relieve traffic congestion on Interstate 35 between San Antonio and Austin is underway.

The Lone Star Rail District is conducting an environmental review for a project that could provide rail service from San Antonio's South Side to Georgetown.

According to the Rail District high-speed rail express services connecting San Antonio, and Austin will also stop in New Braunfels and San Marcos.

"Really what is needed is a conventional system that operates in about the 90 mph range and that puts us right in the hour, hour and 15 minute sweet spot for our express trains to serve the two downtowns. And that's enough," said Joseph Black, rail director and project manager.

An open house will be held at the Carver Cultural Center on North Hackberry Tuesday at 8 p.m.
