Planning commission approves changing Enrique M. Barrera Parkway back to Old Hwy. 90

City Council must still take up measure

SAN ANTONIO – Less than a year after city leaders changed the name of Old Highway 90 to Enrique M. Barrera Parkway, the City Planning Commission voted Wednesday to change the road back to its original name.

In July, a group of residents and business owners began challenging City Council decision.

They included with their request a check for $32,000 that would cover some street signs that have already been changed to the new name, and other city expenses.

Residents on the city's West Side said they were not opposed to honoring the City Councilman, but they felt changing the road's name was not the best way.

The next step is for the San Antonio City Council to take up the issue.
