Police arrest suspect in cigarette thefts, thanks to Crime Stoppers tips

Eddie Gonzales, 39, accused of hitting same store twice

SAN ANTONIO – Eddie Gonzales, 39, is accused of breaking into the same South Side convenience store twice and stealing cigarettes.

San Antonio police said they tracked him down, thanks to Crime Stoppers tips.

They received reports in early September about two separate break-ins at a Corner Store on S. Zarzamora near Gillette Boulevard.

Surveillance video showed a man breaking a window on the business, then reaching in and grabbing cigarettes from behind the counter, according to an arrest affidavit.

The man then loaded the cigarettes into a trash bag.

Police aired the photos on various news stations during a Crime Stoppers segment September 29. The affidavit stated that they soon received calls from several tipsters who identified Gonzales as the man in the photos.

Gonzales was arrested Tuesday on two counts of burglary.
