SAN ANTONIO – Police received a call about a suspicious person Friday night near Independence and Liberty Bell. As soon as an officer arrived, the person ran off and was threw things while running.
San Antonio police Chief William McManus said police believe the man was throwing stolen property. He also dropped a knife during the chase.
The officer chased the man to a backyard. At that time, the suspect turned to the officer and fired at him, while he was trying to climb over a fence.
The suspect was able to flee from the officer. Police believe the suspect is hiding inside a nearby home.
Police are systematically searching the neighborhood for the suspect.
