Police identify man killed in deadly Loop 410 accident Thursday

Driver of other car still in hospital

SAN ANTONIO – The man who was killed in an accident near Loop 410 and New Sulphur Springs Road Thursday evening was identified by police as Robert Corley Cornish.

Cornish was outside of his truck, checking his trailer, when he was hit by an oncoming car. He was transported to SAMM-C where he later died.

A close friend of the family told KSAT that Cornish's family did not want to talk on camera, but they did release a picture of him. The close friend said Cornish was 32 years old, married and had two young girls. Four days ago, Cornish found out that he would be a father to a little boy.

The family said Cornish was having issues with his trailer when he pulled over on the far right shoulder of Southeast Loop 410.

Police said the driver of a Red Mercury Cougar was headed north when she suddenly lost control of her car, drove off onto the left shoulder of the freeway, returned to the main lanes and slid sideways, pinning Cornish between his truck and the car.

It is not clear why this driver lost control of her car, but police are investigating the accident.

That teen driver is still at SAMM-C and was last reported to have serious bodily injury.
