The Bexar County Democratic Party celebrated the grand opening of its new headquarters near I-10 and Fulton Thursday night with a barbecue and political rally.
New Party Chair Michael Medina whipped up the crowd from the stage, pointing out local dignitaries in attendance.
The party, which has endured an embezzlement scandal and the ousting of former chair Dan Ramos over the past two years appeared rejuvenated and enthusiastic.
“I think with the new leadership we have in the Democratic Party, this is going to be a really strong showing this year for the Democrats here in Bexar County,” said party member Roger Barrera.
Fueling the party’s momentum, the fact that San Antonio Mayor Julian Castro will be the keynote speaker at the upcoming Democratic National Convention.
Party members said they expect a solid voter turnout in November.
