Political newcomer and Tea party favorite Donna Campbell beat Democrat John Courage Tuesday night to claim the District 25 Texas Senate seat.
Campbell took a commanding lead during early voting and Courage conceded the race before 8:30 p.m.
Campbell is an emergency room doctor who surprisingly defeated longtime politician Jeff Wentworth during the Republican primary.
Campbell said her priorities are family and small business, and bringing jobs to the area. She added transportation and education issues must be addressed.
"I know we can be outspent and out named, but nobody can outwork us. Our message resinated and Bexar County came out strong and supported us," Campbell said.
District 25 includes Comal, Guadalupe, Hays and Kendall counties and northern Bexar County and southern Travis County.
