Monday, President Obama said Congress needed to raise the debt ceiling so America could pay its bills. A Tea Party claim challenged the President, calling that "baloney."
At a press conference, the President said, "If congressional Republicans refuse to pay America's bills on time, Social Security checks and veterans' benefits will be delayed. We might not be able to pay our troops or honor our contracts with small business owners."
The chair of the Tea Party Express said that wasn't the case.
"It is pure baloney to say we have to pay the bills for things Congress has already approved," said Amy Kremer. "We are drawing the line on future spending, not the debt or obligations to Social Security, Medicare and the military, which can all be met without an immediate rise in the debt ceiling."
The Washington Post (which is the parent company of KSAT-12) fact checked that statement. It found the Tea Party claim was not true. You can see their full review here.
