SAN ANTONIO -

He's just settled into his new office in Washington, D.C., but newly-elected U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) has already made his first trip to the Middle East.

The Republican went to Afghanistan where he met with military and political leaders to discuss the conditions there ahead of the U.S. troop withdrawal.

The group also went to Israel, where they met with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. 

The lawmakers were back in Afghanistan Tuesday night.
