SAN ANTONIO -

Mayor Julian Castro and Congressman Joaquin Castro, TX-20, celebrated their 39th birthday Monday with a party open to the public at the Pearl Stable just north of downtown.

The celebration is a birthday tradition for the Castro twins dating back to 2001.

As they stand of the cusp of 40, the two say they are looking forward to the year ahead both in their professional and personal lives.

“I got engaged a few months ago and my fiancé and I are expecting a baby girl at the end of the year,” said Rep. Castro. “So I think I will look back on this year and realize just how significant it was.”

“Some people when they turn 39, they start to have a midlife crisis,” Mayor Castro said. “But things are going very well so we're looking forward to the future.”

Monday’s celebration was a rare opportunity for the Castro brothers to be in the same place at the same time.

They say their annual party is also a way for them to thank those who have supported them along the way and continue to do so.
