U.S. Sen. John Cornyn has raised $1.8 million this quarter and now has $6.9 million in campaign cash on-hand.
Campaign Manager Brendan Steinhauser confirmed the totals through Sept. 30 to The Associated Press on Tuesday, before Cornyn's official fundraising tallies were released.
Cornyn is minority whip, making him the Senate's No. 2 Republican. His latest haul is down from the $2.3 million his campaign raised during the second quarter through June.
He is seeking re-election next year but has yet to draw a major GOP primary challenger. No Democratic candidate has declared for the race, either.
On Monday, the campaign began what Steinhauser called a "substantial TV and radio campaign" targeting primary and general election voters. He said just the television component would cost hundreds of thousands of dollars.
