Greg Abbott campaign intern tweets Hitler comparison about opponent Wendy Davis

Abbot campaign, intern issue apology

An intern for the Greg Abbott campaign has targeted State Sen. Wendy Davis with an inappropriate tweet and on Tuesday night, he he and the Abbott campaign apologized.

In the Tweet issued at 11:02 a.m. Tuesday, intern William Martinez wrote "'Mein Kampf For Publicity' by @WendyDavisTexas #AltWendyDavisBookTitle," comparing the Democratic gubernatorial hopeful's memoir to Nazi leader Adolf Hitler's autobiographical manifesto.

The Abbott campaign's press security Avdiel "Abe" Huerta issued the following statement in response: "We find these comments reprehensible and this individual is no longer volunteering for the campaign."

Meanwhile, Zac Petkanas, communications director for Davis' campaign, released this statement: "Whether it's displaying disgusting poster of her as a pregnant Barbie doll or comparing her to Hitler, these vicious personal attacks aren't in line with the values of most Texans."

Martinez has apologized, saying it showed extremely poor judgment.
