SAN ANTONIO -

A discussion of the challenges facing Washington was featured during the San Antonio Chamber of Commerce luncheon on Monday.

The discussion was titled “A Conversation on our Nation’s Future."

Republican Sens. Jerry Moran, of Kansas, and Tom Coburn, of Oklahoma, joined South Dakota Republican Gov. Mike Rounds for the discussion moderated by Ross Ramsey of the Texas Tribune.

“What’s happening in our country today is failed leadership,” Coburn told the audience.

On the subject of Obamacare, Rounds said, “I think it will crash under its own weight.” He continued, “The problem is the amount of damage that it will do to our economy as it collapses.”

But the men agreed that the ability to repeal the law is elusive.

The three shared Moran’s assessment of immigration reform.

“It’s another one of those pieces of legislation with no ability to know exactly how it works,” Moran said.

Though not in attendance at the luncheon, Bexar County Democratic Chairman Manuel Medina took exception to their remarks.

“The Republican Party only offers rhetoric and government shutdowns,” Medina said. “President Obama has taken the lead in solving our nation's broken immigration system.”

On Obamacare, Medina said, “The Affordable Care Act is the first step in solving our country’s health care crisis.”
