Rocksprings man confesses to stabbing mother to death

Sheriff's Office says Joseph Arrevalos, 25, killed mother on Tuesday

ROCKSPRINGS, Texas – A 25-year-old Rocksprings man has confessed to stabbing his mother to death, according to the Edwards County Sheriff’s Office.

The Sheriff's Office said Joseph Arrevalos walked into the county detention center in Rocksprings at 11:40 p.m. Tuesday. He told a dispatcher that his mother, Mildred Ruiz, 56, was unresponsive. Arrevalos had blood on his hands, face and leg, the Sheriff's Office said.

Deputies and EMS went to the home that Arrevalos shared with Ruiz in the 800 block of North Well Street. Deputies found Ruiz in her bedroom and administered CPR. The Sheriff's Office said she was taken by EMS to an AirLIFE location, but died before the medical helicopter arrived. Ruiz was pronounced dead around 1 a.m. Wednesday.

The Sheriff's Office said Arrevalos confessed during an interview to stabbing Ruiz two or three times in her chest. He remained in the Edwards County Jail late Wednesday morning.

The Texas Rangers are assisting the Sheriff's Office with the investigation.
