SAN ANTONIO -

San Antonio city leaders broke ground Wednesday on the final phase of a $31 million development on the West Side.

The San Antonio Housing Authority celebrated the start of the third phase of the San Juan Redevelopment Plan.

The new mixed-income community will feature public housing, project-based voucher and affordable tax credit units.

Project leaders say they're not just creating housing, but economic development opportunities.

"12 of the 252 units will be live-work units, so essentially families that are also running a business will have an opportunity to live here and really contribute to the development of this community," said Lourdes Castro Ramirez, SAHA President & CEO.

The project is being funded by federal and local dollars. It's located in the 2000 block of South Zarzamora.
