The San Antonio Food Bank has received a record produce donation.
A gift of more than 2 million pounds of produce was given to the food bank as part of the third-annual Harvest from the Heart event.
The event was organized by HEB's produce department.
Donations were collected from farmers and growers all over the country.
"All kinds of varieties of fresh fruits and vegetables will make their way from the food bank to families and individuals, kids and seniors right in time for Christmas," said San Antonio Food Bank President & CEO Eric Cooper.
Cooper said produce is one of the hardest donations for the food bank to come by.
The donation is especially helpful during the holidays, he said, when need is up.
The food bank provides emergency food assistance to 58,000 people every week.
Nearly half of the food is perishable, with a majority being fruits and vegetables.
"I appreciate it very much and I thank them very much for thinking of the older people that needs vegetables," said Joyce Jones, a food recipient.
