A San Antonio man visiting Corpus Christi for a beach marathon died Saturday when he drowned off Mustang Island.

KIII-TV in Corpus Christi reported the 32-year-old victim was spending the evening at Mustang Island after the Beach to Bay Relay Marathon that was held earlier Saturday.

The victim was identified by family members as Antonio Juarez.

Juarez was reportedly swimming with a friend when he went too far in the water and got caught in the currents.

KIII-TV reports Juarez's friend pulled him out of the water and police arrived to perform chest compressions.

Juarez was transported to the hospital but was pronounced dead around 11 p.m.
