SAN ANTONIO -

A gathering on the West Side late Thursday night ended with a fatal shooting and a man in custody, San Antonio police said.

SAPD officers responded to the incident just after 10:30 p.m. at a home in the 200 block of Madero Street.

The homeowner told investigators he and his friends had just returned and he went inside to take a shower.

The homeowner said he placed a gun down and then heard some commotion outside. He claims he went back outside and his 19-year-old friend had been fatally shot in the head.

SAPD officers said the alleged shooter fled the scene with a shotgun, but was located a short time later hiding underneath a home and was arrested.

According to SAPD investigators, the men may have been playing with the gun when it was fired and the shooting was possibly accidental.

The name of the victim has not been released and charges against the alleged shooter were unknown Friday morning. An investigation is ongoing.
