SAN ANTONIO -

A man suspected of assaulting a woman northwest of downtown San Antonio has been caught by police, who think there are other victims.

According to police, 31-year-old Marcus Cooper picked up a woman near North Zarzamora and Poplar then drove her to North San Marcos and Culebra.

"She was a passenger in his car. She was taken to a secluded spot where he brandished a knife and made some demands of her. She was fortunately able to get away prior to anything else occurring," said San Antonio police Sgt. Javier Salazar.

Police believe Cooper intended to rape the woman. However, she was able to get away.

"The complainant was in the process of giving officers the information when, apparently, the suspect drove by with a female occupant in the car," Salazar said.

Police think the woman in the car was Cooper's next intended victim. They said he had been picking up prostitutes in the area, and might have assaulted other women.

The woman with the officer was able to identify Cooper and he was quickly arrested and charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

Officers are investigating whether he is connected more sexual assaults in the area. They are asking any other victims to contact them.
