SAN ANTONIO -

A 26-year-old man identified as Joseph Olivarri had his roommate beaten, punched that man’s wife and threatened the roommate with a gun after he told their landlord about illegal drug activity, according to San Antonio police.

An arrest warrant affidavit stated that Joseph Olivarri and the couple rented rooms in the same home in the 4000 block of W. Salinas. Officers were called to the home Sunday for a report of a shooting in progress.

When they arrived, the 37-year-old man told them that Olivarri had kicked in the door of the bedroom he shares with his wife and pointed a gun at them, the affidavit stated.

The affidavit stated the roommate said Olivarri was angry because he had told their landlord that Olivarri was selling drugs. He said Olivarri ordered another man to hit him with brass knuckles, and Olivarri hit his wife in the mouth, the affidavit stated.

The suspect also fired a shot into the air and told the couple they had 20 minutes to move out of the home, or he would kill them, the affidavit stated.

The couple was able to provide investigators only with a nickname, but they soon linked that name to Olivarri, the affidavit stated. Police said Olivarri is a member of the Mexican mafia. They still have not identified the second suspect.
