A San Antonio police officer who was working off-duty at a Chacho's shot and killed a man who threatened him with a gun, SAPD officials said.

According to an SAPD press release, the fully uniformed officer was called out to the Chachos in the 8600 block of Perrin Beitel Road around 1:30 a.m. Friday because of a disturbance at the drive-thru.

The release stated two cars may have been involved in a minor accident and the officer made contact with one of the drivers.

The officer was dealing with the driver when the vehicle's front passenger got out and produced a handgun, the release stated.

The officer fired at the passenger and shot him in the upper body. The passenger fled on foot, but collapsed near the restaurant, police said.

The release stated the man died at the scene and police located his handgun nearby. The name of the man has not been released, but police said he is 23 years old.

The SAPD Officer-Involved Shooting Team is investigating the incident. As per department protocol, the officer involved will be temporarily placed on administrative duty, the release stated.
