SAN ANTONIO -

A man is accused of attacking a driver for Yellow Cab and cutting him across the neck with a knife at a Northwest Side apartment complex.

San Antonio police responded to the Woodlawn Ranch apartments in the 300 block of W. Cheryl early Friday and arrested the suspect as he tried to run away, according to officers at the scene.

Police said the driver of a Yellow Cab told them he had picked up the suspect and two other men in the downtown area and driven them to the gated Northwest complex around 2:30 a.m.

One of the men got out of the taxi, leaving the other two behind.

The driver told police the front seat passenger suddenly bent over and appeared to be ill.

He told the man, who is in his 20s, to open the door and get out of the cab, police said.

Instead, the suspect suddenly reached over and sliced the driver with a knife across his neck, police said. The driver was treated at the scene by paramedics.

Officers caught the suspect inside the apartment complex a short time later and arrested him on a charge of aggravated assault.

Police did not release the names of anyone involved.
