San Antonio police seek driver who hit man, drove off on West Broadview

SAN ANTONIO – San Antonio police are searching for a driver who hit a man and just kept driving.

The crash happened in the 100 block of West Broadview Drive about 10 p.m. Monday.

Ruben Sanchez said he and his son were walking home on a sidewalk on West Broadview when someone in an SUV started driving on that same sidewalk and hit his son.

"We were just walking and talking," Sanchez said. "All of a sudden, I saw my son who was right next to me just fly out in the air. He landed a few feet away from me."

Sanchez's 20-year-old son suffered cuts and bruises and was released from the hospital on Tuesday.

Although Sanchez believes the accident could have been much worse, he also believes it could have been prevented.

Sanchez hopes the city will put up more lighting on Broadview and make a bigger curb along the sidewalk, which almost blends in to the narrow street.

"(The cars are) pretty close, but that driver last night was a lot closer," Sanchez said.

Sanchez hopes that police will be able to track down the driver who hit his son.

"Whoever did this, I just hope he comes forward," Sanchez said. "Maybe one day, it will be one of his loved ones. I don't wish it upon him, but he'll know what I’m feeling."

Police believe the driver who hit Sanchez's son was in a small white SUV.

If you saw something on West Broadview on Monday night, or if you have other information that can help in the investigation, you are asked to call police.
