SAN ANTONIO -

A 22-year-old woman was arrested after police said she mugged another woman and forged the victim's checks, including one for $30,000.

According to an arrest affidavit, a 20-year-old woman filed a police report on March 21. The report stated that someone hit her over the head in a parking lot and stole her purse.

The woman later told police she had a checkbook inside the stolen purse, and that it appeared someone had been writing checks on that account.

Police investigated and found Cardwell had passed four of the victim's checks at Target and H-E-B stores, the affidavit stated.

Police also found surveillance pictures at a Wells Fargo bank that showed Cardwell depositing a check for $30,000, the affidavit stated.

A detective working the case saw the surveillance photos and identified Cardwell, whom he had dealings with before, as the woman in the pictures, the affidavit stated.

A bank teller also identified Cardwell in a photo lineup, the affidavit stated.
