SAN ANTONIO - A 12-year-old boy suffered a gunshot wounded to his ankle in what San Antonio police said was an accidental shooting at the hands of one of his friends.
The boy who did the shooting is also believed to be about 12-years-old, and was not facing any charges as of 7 a.m. Wednesday, police said.
According to officers at the scene in the 800 block of Nevada Street, the boys told them they were walking down the street around 1 a.m. Wednesday awhen they found the handgun.
They told officers they believed the gun was unloaded, and that it was fired accidentally.
One boy was hit in the right ankle. He was taken to University Hospital for treatment of a non-life threatening wound, police said.
A sergeant later said that the gun involved in the shooting showed up in their database as being stolen. He said investigators do not know how it ended up on the street.
