SAPD: Capital murder suspects are naming each other in murder of 7-year-old girl

Three of four suspects accused of killing Iris Rodriguez

SAN ANTONIO – In the two weeks since Iris Roriguez, 7, was shot near Richard Cuellar Park, San Antonio police have asked for leads from the public to find the four people suspected of the crime. An affidavit for the arrest of the third suspect says the biggest tip came from the boyfriend of Rodriguez's mother.

On June 1, Rodriguez was walking away from the park with her mother and her boyfriend when shots rang out. Rodriguez was shot in the head. Her mother was shot in the arm. Witnesses told police a white-colored four-door Chevy Impala or Malibu sped away from the scene. Rodriguez died the next day at a hospital.

It was the mother's boyfriend, Victor Badillo, who told police he recognized the driver "as being from his neighborhood" and that he had a "distinct upper lip scar that made him stand out." Badillo and Rodriguez's mother, Eva Juarez, identified the driver as Frank Gomez.

Gomez was arrested June 3. The affidavit says Gomez "initially denied being at the location," but "changed his statement and made admissions of being present during the shooting." The document says Gomez "observed 'Slicer' fire a weapon towards the direction of the victim."

Gomez identified "Slicer" as Jonathan Campos.

Campos was arrested June 14. Like Gomez, the affidavit says Campos also initially denied being present during the shooting. He also denied being the gunman. The affidavit says Campos later named "Blame" as being with him at the time of the shooting. "Blame" was later identified as Manuel Watson.

Watson was arrested Thursday. Before he was taken to the Bexar County Magistrate's Office, a grinning Watson answered questions from reporters.

"How can I kill a little girl? No, that's crazy," Watson said. "I don't know those guys."

The affidavit says Campos did not identify the fourth suspect wanted in the crime.

Gomez, Campos and Watson are all charged with capital murder.
