SAN ANTONIO -

A San Antonio Police Department detective passed away Tuesday after a year-long battle with Leukemia. Anthony Barasa passed away at noon at Methodist Hospital. He was 46.

The San Antonio Police Department shared the news on its Facebook page. The posting read:

"It is with sadness that we learned of the passing of SAPD Detective Anthony “Tony” Barasa. Tony fought a brave and prolonged battle with Leukemia and passed today (Tuesday). Tony was surrounded by friends and family at Methodist Hospital. Tony is survived by his wife, Leticia, and his daughter, Bella. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and with his fellow officers. Tony was a 16-year SAPD veteran who had worked at East Patrol for several years until his promotion to Detective in June, 2013. He was most recently assigned to West Dogwatch."

The posting added funeral arrangements are pending and would be announced soon.
