The man accused of being behind the wheel of a vehicle that crashed, killing two children, has been officially charged.
San Antonio police investigators said Rigaberto Morales, 35, was speeding and weaving in and out of lanes in an SUV on Southwest Loop 410 and Old Pearsall Road, when he rolled the vehicle over around 6 p.m. on Sunday.
Police said a total of six people were in the vehicle at the time -- three adults and three children.
Two of the children, a girl and boy between the ages of 7 and 10, were ejected from the vehicle during the crash and died due to their injuries. Investigators said none of the occupants of the vehicle were wearing seat belts and a witness told police that at least one of the children was standing up.
The other four passengers -- including Morales -- were taken to an area hospital.
Investigators on Monday said Morales has been charged by proxy with two counts of intoxication manslaughter, two counts of intoxication assault and one count of violation bond/protective order.
He remains in the hospital in serious condition with a head injury.
