SAN ANTONIO -

An investigation is underway by San Antonio police into a possible case of human trafficking at a Northwest Side motel.

SAPD officers initially responded to a theft report at 2:45 a.m. on Wednesday at the EconoLodge on Interstate 10 and Vance Jackson Road.

"The initial call was for report of TVs being stolen, so we don't know if that's the actual call or someone's perception of what happened or if that was just a story to get the police out there to investigate further," said San Antonio police spokesman Officer Roger Zuniga.

Once officers arrived, police said a woman came out of a room to ask officers for help.

SAPD officials said officers located a 27-year-old man with a shotgun and arrested him for being a felon in possession of a firearm.

Officers also took three women in for questioning, who may be victims of human trafficking, police said. The women are all in their late teens or early 20s, and one of them had a small child with her.

"During the course of the officer's investigation, they came across several women in these rooms, and in talking to them, there was some type of indication that may lead us to believe that the suspect may have, they had been forced into prostitution," said Zuniga.

SAPD investigators have not said if they found anything inside the rooms to indicate there was human trafficking. Their investigation is ongoing.
